Such a great way to use up your scraps.

Ok, today is the day. I'm another year older...yikes!

I really don't like to admit I'm getting older. But I can't seem to break the calendar so that is stays at 39. Haha, I don't feel older but I see the droopy skin starting. Oh how I don't want to look like my mother.

So we start the day with cupcake fever, with the lovely owl cupcakes. Thanks Pinterest for giving my daughter ideas! Then we move to my nails...

Please don't notice how bad my cuticles are. Actually if you know of a great cuticle treatment let me know. It dry here in Reno.

But I didn't stop there...I made these adorable cupcake Mug Rugs. I'm making more today.

Just listed this one.

But doesn't it look cute with the cupcake on it???

Super simple card

Yes someday I like to make super simple cards. I just fell in love with the little jar many months ago when CTMH came out with it. I knew I needed it but wasn't sure how I was going to use it.

Last week in my Valentine's card class we tried this card a few different ways.

First as a Valentine's card , then as a birthday card. There are about 8 different little stamps to fill your jar.

Tuesday share

It's sunny Tuesday here in Nevada, but in the high 30's. It thinks its winter, but I would love to see a bunch of snow. We got 2" yesterday, most has melted, just a little in the front yard where the sun don't shine.

Well I'm wanting to get back to regular posting and before Christmas I was posting on Tuesday's what I worked on over the week-end. So I'm trying to get back on track for you and for me.

This week-end I made a baby blanket for my step-daughter. She is expecting in June.

We haven't been told the sex yet, so I went with a generic baby colors.

Not a whole lot of quilting on this quilt because of the minky material on the back, makes it a little hard to free motion.

I'm hoping that she likes this little early baby gift.

From messiest to cleanest room in the house!

Here is a very long post with LOTS of pictures!

I wanted to start the new year with something special that would make me happy. But first I have to show you the BEFORE...beware it was bad.

This was my stamping classroom/guest room that became the sewing DUMP! But I managed to get lots of things done in this mess. But it required cleaning up every time I started a new project. It became too much work. So the upper left is what you was as you walked in and then upper right as you turned, and so forth! Do you see all the bags and bins of stuff?

Well me and my hubby were painting cabinets on New Years Eve...what a way to celebrate? New Years day, he and Jessi painted the walls and NOW...look.

When you walk in the door you see a clean pull-out couch. A guest can stay in here now, well if they wanted to. The cubes in the corner still need a little work, but that is where my scraps are living right now. Also must note I have 12 feet ceilings so I have lots of space to go up...but I'm very vertically challenged. I think a wall quilt would look nice there and a few vases with fake flowers since I can't remember to water a cactus. Another story on how I killed a cactus!!

Then you move over to the window. Not the best photo (note to self, learn to take a better photo of window). Its a shame because hubby and I made a cornice, added twinkle lights and hung several strings of mirrors and crystals from my mom's chandelier. This counter top is the home of both of my embroidery machines...Viking Topaz 20 and Janome 10000. Both have room to sew and embroider.

Corner area...nice place to spread out, pin and hopefully soon have a flat screen TV for the guests...hahaha...ok I wouldn't mind being able to hear a good chick flick while sewing.

Love these little bins...they hold small cuts under 1 yard. Great to be able to just grab and go!

Yes there is a little serger there that I'm learning to play with. Right now I use it on my Cricut covers, but I have a friend to teach me more.

I gave this spot for Jessi. She has 8 feet of workspace for her machine and a cutting area!

I really enjoy having her in my little sweat shop.

Nest to Jessi is more fabric storage. These are up to 3 yard cuts, wrapped on cardboard. Simple but effective and it gets them off the couch, floor, cutting table and the endless bundles of bags.

Decided that I hated having loose papers laying around or taped to the wall for wall the back orders. So I had this great idea to make the doors into chalkboards. Super simple fix. Do you know how many coats of paint it took? OMG...I think we ended up doing 5 coats!

And now back to the seating area. People can come in the room and take a seat and hopefully watch TV soon.

BUT for now Kiska (chocolate Pom) and Mia (Tan Chi-weenie) love to relax while we sew.

I couldn't believe my email today.

If you haven't looked at Pinterest.com, you have to. But beware, it becomes very addicting!!

Anyways once in awhile I post things I have made for the shop, but mainly I go there

to get inspiration. There is so many ideas on this website...food ideas, decorating, crafting, shopping. All of these get me in trouble. In fact my hubby rolls his eyes when I say I saw something on Pinterest. He knows what is coming next...can you make this for me or guess what we are doing this week-end.

That is why I have been so distant, decorating my sewing room...all by ideas from Pinterest.

Ok...so you have figured out that I really love this site.

NOW back to my overflowing emails!!!!

It was a special order. But I thought it turned out pretty darn cute. It almost made me re-think the colors of my sewing room (Don't tell my hubby!)

Ok so I'm a little late is say Happy New Years. I think I needed a few more days in the old year.

Sorry about taking 2 weeks off from blogging.

Lots of things were going on...last minute sewing, finding out grandbaby #4 is on the way, more sewing for baby, Etsy shop, working the quilt shop for a friend and now the sewing room remodel. I kind of feel like my life is running and I'm trying to keep up.

I have been brain storming new designs for the shop and fun things for my upcoming stamping classes.

Lots to share but lots to do.

So share what big things you have to look forward to for 2012. I would love to hear it.

Yes there is Zebra and my vintage velvet flowers all in one. I just love this look.

Anyways, I met this lovely lady on Etsy and she was daring to let me do zebra!

What do you think?

This just makes me want to change my office colors to Aqua, Black & White.

What do you think my hubby would say?

Would Zebra work with retro red & aqua?

But maybe it would work for my sewing machine covers? I haven't decided on what colors my

sewing room....hmmmm...I think I may have some fun in there.

Anyways I can't tell you how much I love the look of these velvet flowers that I add to the covers.

I have to confess, you may be seeing more of these flowers on other things in the near future.

I hope to get to some of my Christmas projects soon and share them with you.

Can I stop sewing?

I thought I would stop long enough to take a breath and share my Christmas colors with you. I have posted for the last several years my ever changing color schemes for my Christmas decorations.

Last year was silver and gold with vintage off white.

This year I have gravitated toward aqua and teal. It's in my kitchen and believe me I would put in my sewing room too. But I had this great idea to add it to my Christmas tree and so forth. I must really drive my hubby crazy!

I got this vase, which is great for my mantel and will eventually make it into my kitchen. It is so yummy. I got it from Willow House, they are a spin off from Southern Living.

And this little tree I found at a craft show and had to have it. Looks great in my office too.

I have the grand idea that I would make these this year...hahaha. I have been sewing for two craft fairs for the last week and the first show is this Friday. So that is where I will be...in my sweat shop!

So finally the tree is up! I totally forgot to get rid of the cords hanging around the base, better do that before someone trips. But we bought a slim line tree this year, so at the end of the day I still have my vintage off white ornaments on the tree just added a little POP of Aqua and Teal!

I'll be sharing more tomorrow.

I'm not kidding about owls everywhere. I have been making eyeglass holders and now these adorable Cell phone cases.

My hubby has a sense of humor...here's my iPhone.

Nope, I get to stick with my Samsung. I do like my keyboard much better than a touch screen for me.

Organize, organize, organize

I'm so happy to show the new colorful hanging storage bins in my kitchen.

I just love the color and just the right amount of POP of color on my pantry door.

The three bins will have labels on them this week-end.

1. is for incoming mail

2. id for outgoing mail

3. for coupons

I'm so happy because now my hubby won't be leaving piles of stuff all over the kitchen island. I swear it always looks like a paper bomb went off there.

We have one for the front hall closet for the dog leashes, bathroom for toiletries, my scraproom for my Cricut cables and now these for the kitchen.

Good morning, its a wonderful Friday.

I want to first say Happy Veterans Day to all of those who have served or had family members who are serving or served. We are all so grateful for them. My hubby served for 20yrs.

Well it is Friday and that mean a card challenge at CSAYL!

This week's challenge is to play with a stamp set that you have never played with, either brand new or one that has been in the drawer. Believe me I could have chosen some out of my stash drawer!! But I didn't. I chose a brand NEW stamp set, in fact it is only available this month from CTMH.

Playing with new stamp sets today

Yes I know I rushing the season by doing all these Christmas cards but I kept seeing this card in my mind. Well I am doing my Christmas card workshop next week too. I had a bear of a time trying to photo this card. It didn't photo as well as I planned. White is really hard to photo. NOTE to self: read up on taking pictures of white things. I have to say my photography skills are getting better when you are taking pictures here and for the ETSY shop. Have you gone over to my ETSY shop? I'll have to tell you about the shop on another post.

So this stamp set has nothing to do with Christmas, in fact it is a more of a thanks stamps set or even an Autumn stamp set. Which reminds me maybe I should make a few of these in the autumn leaf motif.

Yummy Tuesday!

It's Tuesday and it is usually the day that I post a sewing project for you. Well I was sewing all day and that is why I didn't get to the post. In fact I woke up at 4:36AM and thinking about sewing! I know it is a sick addiction. Maybe they will send in the guys with white suits for me some morning that I'm up at that awful time.

Actually I thought I would share a dinner that has me and my hubby fighting over the left overs for tomorrow's lunch! Yep, there was only two helpings left after we ate dinner and the recipe makes quite a bit. See my electric skillet (below).

Yes I do cook in electric skillets and crock pot all the time. I don't do fancy-shmacy dinners, just yummy food.

I found this recipe on a Weight Watchers board several years ago. It is healthy, low fat and VERY tasty.

Pork Salsa

1 lb. of pork loin (cut bite size)

1 jar of Salsa

1 jar of Sugar Free Apricot preserves

1 pkg of taco seasoning

4 cups of rice

I saute the pork with a little olive oil until golden brown. Next add taco seasoning, stir.

I dump in the salsa and the preserves and let it simmer while I'm cooking my rice. That would be 8 mins. for Minute rice in the microwave! I told you very easy.

Next I add the rice and let it bubble for a few more minutes. That give you enough time to grab the bowls, set the table and have the family debate if this meal needs a spoon or a fork!!

By Weight Watchers standard a serving is 3/4 of a cup, which sounds small but it is really filling if you use brown rice.

Here is my serving, with an extra scoop of salsa. I like mine spicy. You can use any salsa you like but I make my own salsa. Maybe next week I can share my Salsa recipe.

So here is a little look of our family dinner time. Quick, yummy, & full of flavor!

But we didn't stop there...

And after that yummy sweet & spicy dinner my daughter had to contribute these white chocolate chip brownies.

Fun organization project

This morning I thought I would share a sewing project that my daughter is working on.

She has had a tough time finding a job, so I told her she can help me out by doing some sewing.

Above is what she has made for my office. Finally I'm getting some color on the walls! These are great little hanging buckets to stash stuff off my desk area (like that will ever happen). I am the type of person who makes stacks. I mean stacks on the desk, on the floor and on any available chair too.

But I'm getting sick of the clutter.

Here are is another set that she made...

we are now trying to figure out if she should make and sell them in sets of three or just individually.

So I have finally taken the leap to open an Etsy shop (see the side link).

They are so much fun and great use of fabric scraps.

What do you think of them?

It really is a beer bottle, but you could find a bud vase, baby food jar or any small container.

So cute to make a little cover and the colors are endless.

I have posted this little vase in another color a few months ago on this post.

CSAYL - Sparkly!

Happy Friday! I hope you are having a wonderful sparkly day. Today I have two things to share with you: 1.) my sparkly CSAYL challenge card & 2.) a CTMH special for this week-end for my readers.

So this week challenge at CSAYL was a do a card that is SPARKLY. That was easy because almost every card I do has CTMH stardust on it, it's like Stickles but in a bigger bottle. But I didn't stop there I also added rhinestones too. It was fun to step out of the box and do a shaped card too. I hope you enjoyed.

This week we were given that opportunity to play with digital stamp images from Bugaboo. You need to checkout her humorous images. She's a hoot! But I have to admit that this week's Bugaboo image was super easy to color and you can find lots of options for the hoho. I chose not to do traditional colors.

Bags, Bag, Bags...warning lots of pictures!!

I'm sharing a new purse that I woke up this morning to make. Lots of fun and testing it out and seeing of people like it. I do LOVE this fabric, but if it is a big floral print its me!

Typically I'm not a blue person either, but I think I can see this royal blue making it into my sewing room again,

Here is a close up of the velvet ribbon flower...those are alot of fun and frustration all at once. This flower took me two times of making it, seam ripping and persistence. I think it is well worth it.

But as always my Tuesday post is about my week-end sewing projects. This week-end I was making mini totes for the Cricut Gypsy. Here is a special order to go with the lovely Cricut dust cover for Nichole. Did you go checkout her blog? She is very talented and I am so lucky to have met her.

It is a mini tote only measuring 8" x 10" x 3". I think it is great for the Gypsy, small projects or for a little girl. However my little girl, who is turning 21 this week, put it on her shoulder and she was right some people like small bags. Not me. I'm a glutton for punishment, large bags to store lots of goodies in that work well for shopping trips.

So bag fever is going on in the house...here is a bag that Jessi made for herself.

She just fell in love with this fabric on the last shopping trip. I think the print is age appropriate.

I'm so glad that I get to share my sewing room with a talented young lady.

I'm trying to spare Keith from painting the office so it is nice to just add a little punch of color, so far the cricut cover, wall quilt and a dog bed. I'm sure I can recover the stamping chairs or new curtains or lumbar support for my chair....hmmm...I'm sure I can think of some more goodies!

CSAYL - purple, well burgandy!

Happy Friday!

Are you enjoying the cooler temperatures outside? I'm not! Last week we were still in the 80's and this week 50's....brrr. At least we could have had a few weeks of cooler weather than blowing in a

"early winter warning" Yes, that is what they said two days ago...and they actually got snow

at the ski resorts. SNOW! I moved from Alaska to get four seasons. So yes across the Reno valley, I can see snow on the tip top of Mount Rose.

I guess that means I should start planning my Christmas gifts for the family, had big plans to make lots of stuff. But I know that I will have fabulous cards for everyone.

Just wanted to share my creepy stitchin wall quilt. I call it creepy stitchin because I would probably scare a traditional quilter with my black scribbly(I know it's not a word) stitching. But that is the look I was going for.

I think the fabric is so adorable and it kind of reminds me of the alot of the

Halloween movies that i watched with my daughter when she was young.

Here is the full quilt.

What a fun project to do and it only took a night! Ok I roped Jessi into binding my quilt.

Trick-n-treating bags

It's getting that time of the year...Halloween.

I actually like the thought of dressing up as someone else and acting silly. When my daughter was young we would have some much fun with it. Her birthday is a week before Halloween so we would have a scary birthday party. The parents would love it because then everyone got to wear their Halloween costume for more than 1 night.

That other day when I was on one of my quilt store shopping excursions, I found this panel that could be cut up into Halloween goodie bags. I think they are just so fun!

Well some kids would think these bags are too small but I think they are perfect for

the grand kids. Now I hope I get some photo of those gremlins in their costumes (hint, hint).

Like my step-kids ever read my blog.

Sewing Sunday!

I had a fantastic Sunday!

I was able to get several sewing projects done and mailed out to the grand babies, do laundry,

and start another wall quilt. Whew!

Here is a blanket for Paxton. He's our grandson. Well I made a pink one of these a few months ago for his baby sister, Kamryn. Pax's mom told me that he has been stealing his sis's blanket all the time. Something about minky everyone seems to love. Even my 20 year old want me to make her one!

And I think my little Kiska wants one too!

I took the picture of the blanket, turned around to start sewing again and this is what I found.

I sure hope Paxton is not allergic to pomeranians!

Isn't Charming?

Yes...I think this is a charming little wall quilt and a NEW addition to my office.

Here you can see the full quilt all ready for the wall.

Now the play on word is "Charm"ing...this quilt and the quilt top t the bottom of the post is both made with charm packets. If you don't know what they are, they are 5" square of yummyness! Yes that is a word. But I have been playing around and ordered several charm packets to play and design with, so more will be coming.

I am so excited that this morning I finished the 2nd charm quilt. Well it still need to be bound and quilted but I wanted to share it with you.

It is going to look great in the house when it is done. Yeah I know I'm pushing Christmas, but I never seem to get all the projects done in time. This year is a little different (hahaha).

I have so many projects I want to get done for family and my Etsy, but first I have to stop working at the quilt store to get these projects done.

But good news I gave my notice so that I can get back creating and selling my crafts. So in the past few months I have lost a few readers of my blog and I feel really bad about it. So I have a few questions for you...

What would you like to see more of?

Would you like me to feature other blogs and goodies?

Sewing? Paper? Pre-made kits? Other?

If you were to purchase stuff from my Etsy, what types of things would interest you?

The reason I ask this is because I'm all over the board on projects that I do.

Now doesn't that look festive? Are you starting to think about the holidays that are upon us? I know I am. I'm planning who I'm sewing for and who I'm making card sets for.

I just love Shop Hopping!

We started the day of shop hopping this week-end with hot air balloons! I'm not kidding, as we were traveling towards Reno there were hot air balloons in the air, even the forest fires didn't keep them down. Yes the sky was a little hazy, but here is the first view (below).

As we got closer to the field where they were taking off this butterfly caught my attention! See how big it is next to the Remax balloon?

We were off to see at least 4 shops on Saturday and the first stop was Quilting Tahoe. It was a cute little shop.

As you see Mary left with a big smile.

I think all of us left with one of those little green checked bags.

Next stop was Stateline, NV...Fabric Unlimited. Ok this shop could be bad for me! They had dyes, paint sticks, fashion fabrics and tons of purse patterns. Now you see why this could be bad for me, or my pocketbook.

Now from there I forgot about my camera...I think it had to do with the Sangria's for lunch!

But we ventured to Gardnerville, NV to the Quilt House, Minden, NV to Fabric Chicks

and then back to our stomping grounds of Sparks, NV.

Our last stop was Twisted Scissors, in Sparks, NV. They will soon have a website as soon as I finish it.

This is a cute little store but packed with some awesome fabrics...here take a peek...

So at the end of the day I came home with all these goodies.

So I can say another fantastic day of shopping and now I have to get my shoulder better so I can get back to sewing!

CSAYL - This week's card

TGIF! I'm so happy it is Friday. I plan on a fun week-end with a quilt shop hop with a few girlfriends but first to start every week-end off I get another Christmas card done.

I have to say that I didn't quite follow the challenge this week...ok when do I follow rules? This week's challenge at CSAYL was to make a Christmas card for a teacher. Well I have to admit that my daughter has not been in public school since she was in 6th grade and she is now turning 21yo. She and I chose to homeschool. So if you have some ideas of a teacher card I would love to hear it...or better yet we would love to have you join our challenge this week over at CSAYL.

Happy Wednesday

I am a little behind on my blog posts lately. If I lived in my make believe world I would have the most wonderful blog posts, be super creative and take awesome pictures. And by wonderful blog post I mean being able to share the gift of gab. Nope. I tend to write short and simple posts.

So here goes with my post...enjoyed the long week-end. Did you?

I got some sewing projects done, a little sun, a comedy show, good food and a few things around the house done. So overall a successful week-end.

So on to the purse...this was a test purse. I was testing it for teach ability. Is this a purse I could teach a class room of sewers? So who is the best person to test it on but my daughter! Overall the purse is not difficult. I would say it is a good beginner purse, except for the zipper. Which is good news about the zipper it is totally optional. The patter is the Baja Traveler Bag.

Well here is the TWINS!

Overall, I think Jes and I did pretty good at lining up seams and matching patterns with two directional pattern fabric.

CSAYL - Fancy Shmancy Folds

Yeah! It's Friday and a long week-end. I'm so happy to just want to putz around the house and try to get my projects all in line...oh and clean my sewing room!

But another reason I like Friday is that I'm another step closer to having all my Christmas cards ready for the holiday season, my family will love it. And this week at CSAYL we have Pink Cat Studios as our sponsor and the challenge is called Fancy Shmancy. This means incorporate a fancy shmancy fold on your creation, Well I never follow directions totally...I heard folds and went with it, so my card ended up being a fancy little folded card. And don't you like my little penguin fairy, to me he/she look festive.

Cookin and sewing!

Yep it's sewing time at the Applegarth house. I got a little sewing job and so did Jessi. So we will be showing some different sewing projects from time to time.

This was a fun purse/tote bag. It has the feel and size of a tote bag, but the comfort of a purse. If you would like me to make you this bag or any of the others, please email for more information.

But I have to admit when I sew I make wonderful dinners too. Yep I can multi task if I have a sewing machine and a crock pot! This week we are trying a new cookbook, so every night I'm testing recipes from Hungry Girl's 300 under 300 cook book. Kinda fun, but I'm sorry Hungry Girl I won't eat funky stuff...I want it to be normal everyday stuff you have in your cabinets.

My first recipe that was a success was here Outside-in Turkey Tamale Pie. Oh my gosh, was that yummy! It gets two thumbs up with the family. Day two was a Chicken Pot pie casserole using low fat crescent rolls. Another thumbs up! So tomorrow I will post how the Taco Meatloaf is, wish us luck. Maybe we will drop a pound or two!

I just love that fact that I'm so ahead on my Christmas cards and that I'm not going to stress about getting them out late. Now all I have to worry about is sewing all the goodies I have planned.

Stampin Sunday

Happy Sunday! I had a great day yesterday at the crafter yard sale over at Pickled Tink. It is a shame that the store is closing. But good news they are going to continue teaching classes at another location. Overall, yesterday I got sun and made some MAD money!

Here is the CTMH class sample from last week's class. They got to play with the NEW Cricut cartridge, only available from CTMH, go check it out...HERE. We made two, but I can't find the other sample! Go figure...totally trashed my classroom trying to grab stuff for the sale.

Anyways, we made tissue holders and matching cards. It was so fun to get together with my Sparks girls. And everyone was excited over the new CTMH catalog. Which you can go see that over at my blog...HERE.

Here is something new that I have been wanting to play with...fabric postcards. I have 3 books on this subject and it has really fascinated me for some while, just wasn't sure if anyone was interested in it.

So here is my first attempt and she is actually for a swap.

I decided to stitch my saying, but I could have easily stamped the saying too. I was taught the stitching technique at a workshop with Ruth Rae. But I did get my CTMH stamps out to stamp the back of the postcard! I figured that I could adhere cardstock on the backside, perfect for stamping.

Well anyways it was a fun attempt and maybe I will be sharing more with you soon!

I love PURSES!

Yes I admit it I have a thing for purses!

My closet if full of lots of yummy purses, Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Juicy Couture, Micheal Kor and now a whole section of handmade purses made by ME!

So this morning I had this card on my mind. It reminds me of the Bari J purse I made last week. As I was making this card I was think of all the other way I could make it. This one was made with all paper, but I started thing about how I could make the purse design with fabric or embroidery and add it to card fronts. Hmmm...might be my next new obsession.

Sewing Tuesday

Actually, I usually sew on the week-ends, Sunday is such a great day to lock yourself into your craft room, turn on music and have some else figure out dinner. But unfortunately I was sick with the flu this week-end and sewing or eating was not in the agenda.

But yesterday I was feeling a little better...and it is nice when hubby leaves for work and I can sew all day. All I did Monday was go to the gym, take a shower, pull on those comfy sweats, pull hair up and sew.

This purse pattern is a Amy Butler's Birdie Sling. The pattern says its a beginner pattern. Well you learn alot for a beginner pattern...pleats, and sewing curves. Overall I like how the purse came out and I think I would do another!

Hope you have a good day tomorrow...I'm working at the quilt store, but will be back on Thursday with a project and Friday with my Christmas cards!

I love a play on words and this week is! The CSAYL challenge this week is "Gimme the bird" which is meaning somewhere in your creation there needs to be a bird.

I love liquid stitch!

Ok...I have a confession. I love to sew, but I discovered the wonder of liquid stitch. So the confession is that I have a terrible time adding binding to everything. I really believe in raw edges, but not anymore. It's so exciting, no more dreading on finishing these lovely oven mitts!

I found this cute pattern from Bari J. You would know that I would like to make something that is supposed to be collaged.

Just love this bird. I started with a semi crazy quilt background, added some fussy cut images and a touch of lace.

This mitt I decided to do random strips because I was scared to collage. Ok that was another confession. I have paper collaged but I was a little nervous, but I think I have knocked down my fear of fabric collage. I think the fear comes from working in a quilt store where there are some awesome quilting ladies. I fear that they will look too close at my stitches. But hay I have never seen the quilting police, have you?

Don't send them my way.

Painting, stamping and sewing!

This is what you get when you lock me in my craft room. I had a blast painting and stamping this canvas tote BUT.....

I couldn't stop, had to change the shape of the bag along with adding some really cool handles.

AND with the scraps I'm making a jewelry piece.

The back looks great too!

Look towards the sun not the shadows!

I have been playing with fabric and canvas the past couple of days, that is between working and going to the local quilt show. That was a blast, can't wait to show you what I'm working on now.

Anyways this is for a friend, not sure if she looks at my blog anymore so I thought I would sneak this in.

I want to get back to coloring with my copics, but right now we have tore the carpet up in my classroom/sewing room and I have stuff all over the house to sort through.

CSAYL - Christmas ornaments anyone?

Oh these are so fun! The other day I was walking around World Market, and this particular day I was not in the wine section (hehehe)...I just love looking at the cooking things. I have no idea, I'm not much of a culinary person. I think I'm a closet culinary chef, but reality is I can't live without my crockpot!!

Well back to wandering...I found these cute little tart pans for $1.49 and was sure I could do something with them. Upon getting home I discovered that there is already a drilled little hole in them, which makes them ideal for hanging. Christmas ornaments are such a cute little way to say Merry Christmas.

Beer bottles and flowers!

Today's post is what I was doing yesterday...

it all started with a bottle of beer. I'm not much of a beer drinker but Keith wanted me to try this ale.

Heck I made chili and beer is supposed to go good with it.

Well I'm sure the recycle guy loves to see our house with beer and wine bottles, and of'course my Diet Pepsi cans. So what if we could find creative uses for them.

Vases....hmmm let's make some flowers with fabric scraps....

Ok bottle is still ugly....But what if I cover the bottle. That idea came from a book/magazine I bought a few months ago called 101 Patchwork Projects & Quilts by Interweave.com

So here is my first beer bottle cover!

And here is the finished project. Now the possibilities of covering a wine bottle and in any color I want and to match any room too! I feel so proud of myself to find my inner re-cycle side.

CSAYL - color inspiration this week.

With those colors I just knew I needed to do a snowman.

The snowman on the card and dishtowel was stitched with my embroidered with

my sewing machine and then colored in with Copic markers.

The card sentiment was a CTMH stamp, stamped with Memento ink pad.

Whoo is this?

I have been having fun sewing up little owls. This owl is going to visit Sierra Sewing Center in Reno, NV. He is our token mascot for the store, but he needs friends. So that means I will need to make his little family.

We are seeing if anyone would be interested in taking a class to make the cute little critters.

On another note...

Do you see my orange wall? Yep, I painted 1 wall orange and the rest light blue, it makes such a cheerful kitchen each morning. But the fun thing about the wall is the chalk boards that I'm adding to the wall. I have several drying in the other room, but you can sort of get the idea of where I'm going.

Vintage beauty

I have been playing with ribbons, buttons and stitching lately and thought I would share.

I have so many of these vintage clip art and need to play with them more.

So the news on the home front is that grand baby three arrived, a little girl named Kamryn. Needless to say I am a little behind on sending goodies to the step son. I know what I'll be working on the next day or so.

I hope your enjoying your summer...I'm trying to get used to the warm weather. This Alaskan is not used to 90 degree weather.

A happy bird

What a cute happy bird!

This week-end after my class I continued to make embroidered cards. Here (above) is where I stitched the outside on the design and colored it in with Copic markers. I'm just a happy bird that I can make

this card super fast with my sewing machine. So I decided that this week I will try to make several of these cards to have around the house for all occasions.

Here is the design when it is stitched up, I have two options...

So this was my little project for the week-end stitching cards and dishtowels while I assigned my hubby to a project...

I painted an accent wall in my kitchen ORANGE!

Here is a peek!

OK...it looks a little bright, but the adjoining walls are light blue. Just think orange, blue and white...the guy and Home Depot said the color were very feng shui. So I'm hoping for a happy place, Rooster looks happy! I read a HGTV article about decorating with orange and have some great ideas. We have more walls to paint and I'm making the cornices for the slider and kitchen window, I hope to have it completed by next week-end! Well off to make some baby books today for the neighbors and grand babies.

What is your favorite memory from childhood Christmas's?

I have always loved that time of the year because everyone loves to share their baking. And what would Christmas be without cookies? Do you have a family cookie recipe? Did you bake with your mom or dad? My dad was the one who taught me how to cook and bake.

AND I am so thankful to have a daughter who loves to bake, her oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are the BOMB! (BTW she is making them today for my Saturday stamping class).

This card is for those of you who still visit my blog. I just wanted to thank you for leaving kind comments.

I know that my blog is going thru a little transition...paper one day, then sewing projects and then who knows whats next. I have many hats (CTMH, papercrafting DT assignments, sewing, crochet) and now I'm going to try working part-time at the local quilt store. I'm not sure if working at the quilt shop will get me where I want to be but I will be thankful for any additional knowledge and the extra spending money won't hurt either.

I have another Christmas card done for next year.

This week the challenge at CSAYL is to use a die cut as your main focal point. What a great idea...I have been wanting to make more of these little stockings. The vintage ones I made last year looked so cute on the Christmas tree. I had so much fun paper piecing this little stocking together and then getting to use a few fancy stitches from my sewing machine.

Another sewing project...

I was prepping for a Copic class last night and decided I needed to get away from my scraproom.

I walked into the living room and everyone was off doing their own thing, let the dogs out,

searched the refrigerator for something (not sure what), by then it was 9pm.

Thought about turning on the TV, but that sounded boring and going to bed didn't sound like much fun either...so what do I do??? I pull out paint!

Yes, last night around 9:30pm I decided I wanted to paint. So I gathered as much as I could in my arms and brought it out to the kitchen island. i figured it was the biggest workspace and the cleanest, that is until I started painting.

This how it looked when I went to bed. When I woke up this morning I was rearing and ready to go. I was sitting in front of my sewing machine before 7:30am. Hubby was leaving and was looking for me to give me a kiss goodbye. There I was robe, messy hair and my canvas all ironed. Yes, girls I ironed before 8am.

So back to my sewing machine...

I wanted to add black into the canvas, like scribbles. I thought stitching it would be fun. It takes lots of stitching, maybe next time I will use a thicker thread (note to self).

I knew I wanted to make it into a purse to match my outfit for tonight's Copic class at Pickled Tink, but I didn't have a pattern. So I got this wild idea that I could draw one...so I did.

End result some days are more productive than others. I hope you have a productive day today. See you tomorrow with a Christmas card for the CSAYL challenge.

Dress for $10 and sewn in 5mins

Yes, this dress only took me 5 minutes thanks to Walmart! I just happened to walk into a Walmart in Reno today and they had a fabric department. The one by my house in Sparks does not and its a shame.

Well anyways I wanted to make a throw on dress so that if I'm sitting on the patio and the door rings I can just slide it over my bathing suit.

And there was Walmart with several pre-gathered fabrics on the bolts. Lots of colors to choose from, now which one to make. The fabric is $10 per yard and this took 7/8 of a yard.

So Jessi had to make one too. She just ask that I add strap to her dress.

Fun dresses for a total of $21.00.

Off to do some more sewing and prep for my Copic class on Thursday night.

I needed an earth tone necklace

So I made one!

I decided to step out on my usual color choices and do brown. I painted the febric so I would get a range of browns, reds and gold. I'll try to take a photo of me wearing it.

This was so much fun to make that I'm going back into my sewing room to make a vintage one and a black and white with some POP of color.

What would you do with a 3" heart?

Fun little Sunday creation...

I was wanting to make something a little different today, wasn't sure what.

Well I'm still playing in my sewing room or as Keith says making a HUGE mess, but thought I would share this little project. The heart was layered, them embroidered, then random stitching to hold the quilt sandwich together. It was my first this morning. Let's just say it was intended to make a fabric piece for a necklace. I'll just say I started, didn't measure, had no rules or directions and it ended up too big for a necklace. So my next thought was to make it into a pin, because I hate to throw away my little creation, then I had another thought of making more and put them into picture frames for the wall (which would really look nice if you made 4 of these). I set it aside on my next to my stamping supplies from yesterday's class and it just looked great!

What would you do with a fabric heart that is about 3" tall? I would love to hear your suggestions.

CTMH, Copics and a little fun!

Once a month I teach a workshop in my home. This month theme was to use CTMH stamps and paper, Copic markers and a touch of vintage inspiration. Generally when I think of vintage cards I think of lace, fabrics, soft color palletes and stitching. What do you think of?

Well my main goal was, to get the girls over their fear of sewing on paper. I gave them the opportunity to sew with my new machine, which they just let me do it. But next month they will be using my machine...I'll share that later in the post. Right now I will show you another card or two.

Very simple card, but love the effect.

So a few eaamples of what my monthly Sparks group does...

Hoo hoo!

I have been keeping myself busy today while my backyard patio was being installed. I'll share pictures of the patio on Monday, because they have to come back with more sand and seal it.

Anyways, I am totally addicted to these little owl eye glass holders.

I found the pattern at Embroidery Garden and it is totally made in the machine embroidery hoop!

You should checkout her site because she has paper crafting ideas for the Cricut too, just look for the tab near the bottom of the website.

In fact it was so much fun that my daughter had to make one for herself.

It is so nice to share my machine with her and knowing that she might enjoy sewing too.

Happy Friday the 13th! Lots happening here...blogger finally came up, new patio is being installed as I write, have this nifty challenge for CSAYL and going to see Bill Engval tonight at the Silver Legacy.

My card - do think you are seeing spots? Yes I over did it with spots on my penguin, but I'm sure who gets this Christmas card will love it.

BUT the challenge is to add stitches to you creation, which I did....simple straight stitching around the card base (which I love to do lately) and a decorative stitch on the ribbon. Does it look like snowflakes?

Happy Mother's Day

A new outlook...

I haven't enjoyed Mother's Day for over 9years since my mom passed away 9yrs 2 months ago. It is amazing how some holidays are so hard to get thru and how they are landmarks too. Healing time takes a very long time. For years I have been tortured with my mom's memory and wishing that my step-kids would realize that I'm not their ememy. Both things I have no control over, and have to make the best of what I have than what I don't have.

This week-end has been wonderful.

My husband and 20yr old daughter spoiled me with LOTS of time together and a few nice gifts.

I'm so glad we had the time together. I wouldn't trade it anything.

So here's to a new outlook that sticks around.

I'm hoping your week-end was wonderful and if you have your mother around give her a big hug from me.

A little for you card...

Here is a little "For you" card I made with my embroidery machine today. I was a little daring to use cardstock with my machine. It was super fun, now think of all the options I will have with this. I can scan some of my favorite stamps and make them into cards and quilts.

Copic and Fabric - Crazy Quilt

Today I'm sharing another Copic and fabric project.

I am calling this style Old meets New Crazy Quilting.

Why old? Crazy quilting has been around since Victorian times. Traditonally, they are made up of fabric scraps (Wool, silk, satin, lace, flannel and whatever you can get your hands on) and generally all hand embroidered.

So the NEW part is using a machine embroidered image as the center focal point that was colored in with my Copic markers, along with new fabric scraps and machine stitching.

I'm planning an upcoming class on fabric and Copics and this will be available in the Fall at a local quilt shop. I'll keep you posted on the dates and in the meantime you will get to enjoy more samples!

Ok...here is a little tidbit...in traditional crazy quilts you will usually find a spider web, spider or a beetle. I HAD to add that to mine too, however again this was done with my embroidery machine. But I think next time I will make the spider another color so he stands out!

Copic and fabric

I'm having so much fun playing with my sewing machine that I felt I was neglecting my Copics. In my perfect world, I would want both of them to play together and make wonderful works of arts and gifts! I have so many ideas and more classes using the two together.

So this month, I'm am teaching a small class, Thursday the 26th, at Pickled Tink. Here is my first class sample, I plan to make several because these little guys are so addicting! We will be making a gift bag and a card. In this class we will have a little sewing, a little lace, stamping and coloring with Copic markers. It should be fun!

Show me and She Art Girl #2

This is my morning project...to finish another She Art canvas. I'm taking this online class called the She Art Workshop by Christy Tomlinson. It is an awesome class, just I'm not the best at keeping up on online classes. It would be awesome if she would come to Reno, NV and take a week-end retreat...(hint, hint.)

But I am very happy with this canvas because it looks so nice on my desk!

I made it for the bathroom wall...aqua, brown and butterflies is my downstairs guest bathroom. However, the wall is bigger than I thought and I would have to make at least 2-3 canvases to make that wall look nice. I guess that will be next week!

But why I was at it, I thought I would share my messy workspace that I have to clean up now. Actually I used to join in on a group over at Paper Craft Planet, called Sassy Cheryl's and on Thursday's she likes to see what your work space looks like...so this is for Cheryl!

I miss you girls alot.

Yes there is my 2nd morning Diet Pepsi! Lots of glue, inks, stamps, pens and glue.

I have to say it was nice to have a little break from my sewing room. I have been working hard on inventory...etsy shop coming soon!

Easter Copic Coloring Class today!

Teaching a Easter a Copic coloring class at Pickled Tink Studios in Reno, NV. Today we are going to make a few cards using CTMH Stamp of the month stamp set Sensational Season, CTMH paper pack Sophia and Copic markers. It is so great that I can match and blend with the Copic markers to go with any paper pack. Either way I really like how these cards came out...

I colored each image, sponged around the edges and added a little Stickles. Can you see these sparkly tails? My daughter asked why I would Stickle their tails and I say why not!

So if you are interested in learning how to color with Copics, have 3-5 friends and in the Reno area I would love to come and show you.

She Art Girl #1

Yesterday I started a online workshop called She Art Workshop by Christy Tomlinson. I'm so excited to do something out of my comfort zone. I have always wanted to explore more areas of mixed media art and collage has always bee a hard one for me. Somehow I want to always make thing neat, clean and symmetrical, which in my mind collage isn't. Boy! do I have alot to learn.

Here is my first canvas...

I had so much fun stamping, painting, gluing, rubons and more! Do you see her dress is fabric? Well it has a little Mod Podge over it.

SEW minky

Ok I bit the bullet and tried sewing minky. I just love the feel of minky and the make the best throw blankets BUT...

it is a pain in the butt to sew!

I had no trouble sewing the front and the back together with the help of spray adhesive, safety pins and a tons of straight pins. But the binding is another story, or should I say another word...STRETCH!!!

I have said this before I'm not a quilter, so binding and mitered corners are word that make me cringe.

Needless to say, I thought this was going to be one expensive doggie blanket once I started the binding.

But with help from my local quilt store, Sierra Sewing Center in Reno, and two very patient sales ladies they helped me through it. Of course I needed a walking foot, and then a wider workspace and....well I bought a few tools to make my life easier.

Ok hubby didn't think me spending $250 on sewing supplies was funny, but he did buy me this sewing machine and did know that it could be an expensive hobby. He is still hopeful I will start making something and open an Etsy store and consign my goodies.

Anyways I was so happy to complete another sewing project this week! Now off to work on some cards for the magazine and figure out what nest week's sewing project will be.

CSAYL Paper Piecing

This week over at CSAYL blog we are paper piecing. This week I thought I would try something new and different and paper piece a poinsettia. Usually I choose an easier subject, like a girl and piece her dress...BUT nope. I needed a challenge.

Well it sure was a challenge this week since I have been sick all week. I have been riding some weird sickness that has made me dizzy all week which likes to follow up with a upset stomach. I feel like I'm riding in a boat, I can tell you that motion sickness pills help.

I'm seeing ruffles!!

Are you shocked, this week-end I didn't make another purse? But I'm going to this week!

I thought I would try making ruffles this Sunday, that is because I want to make a purse that has ruffles.

So what a better way to practice is on a pillow.

When I was over at the quilt store they told me of a easy way to make ruffles, using your cording foot on your sewing machine. Yes I know that I can also buy a ruffle foot for my machine, but it is basically the foot can only be used for 1 purpose, so I bought the cording foot so you can add ribbon and cording to your creations, along with ruffles!

This is how easy it is....

Isn't that cool? I just run the dental floss thru my foot and zig-zag over and then pull. Perfect ruffles super fast. Well it would be fast if I didn't have to make 8 rows of ruffles. This project probably took me over 5 hours to finish, but I am a slow sewer. Is that a word?

Begining Copic Class

Each month I teach beginning Copic Coloring class at Pickled Tink Studios in Reno, NV. And this week I had an opportunity to meet some lovely ladies from around the area. This month we used Close to my heart Sophia paper, along with some digital images from Pink Cat Studio.

These cards were designed for the beginner in mind, next month class at Pickled Tink Studios I will step up the techniques to include shading and light sources.

Yep, a pink pig for Christmas! Isn't that what you wanted? I just found this Pink Cat Studio image humorous. Just makes me giggle. Why because I have two pig at my front door. I found these big metal yard art pigs that have wings and I found a sign that say "when pigs fly". I just find silly old pigs silly.

So this week's challenge at CSAYL is inside out challenge, that means to decorate the inside of your card too.

I'm not a quilter...

I will admit that I'm not a quilter and thought this was the cutest bag when I got the pattern...then I read the instructions. It required some quilting. Oh my gosh! I have not quilted in years and my extent of quilting was making the tops. Funny thing is I have lots of tops that never got quilted, another story. Well as many of you know that I have a new sewing machine and I didn't even know how to turn the free motion quilting on until today in my sewing class. It might have been helpful the night before when I was making this bag.

So here is your hint, don't look too closely at my stitches. I think my next sewing class will be a free motion quilting class and I'll try this bag again.

But at the end of the day I was proud of my little bag and I still think it is a cute bag. And love the colors - AQUA. Oh and it has awesome comfy shoulder straps that don't cut into your shoulders - a bonus! I carry way too much in my handbags.

Which is my questions of today...what do you have in your purse?

wallet, camera (you never know when you'll need it), pens, cheater glasses for the aging eyes, Micheal's coupons, car keys, lip gloss, cel phone, snack...these are my normal stuff and sometimes more if I know I going to do something fun.

Is it Spring yet?

I was having a little Copic fun this morning. Just wanted to make a fun Spring card. The weather here today is nice, but is snowed just two days ago. The dogs are enjoying the slider door open where they can run in and out when they want to. I'm so looking forward to sitting on my patio with a glass of wine, but that means going shopping for a patio table and chairs. Not to mention hiring a landscaper to finish the backyard!

Anyways, I keep asking is is Spring yet?

. I deciding what to work on today...fabric purse, fabric flowers, painted canvas or keep coloring, any suggestions?

I love purses!

Good Morning! I posted this picture on Facebook yesterday and everyone just loved this little jewel that I made. Yes I made this purse under 4 hours. I was so excited on how it turned out. and I really like that it is a structured purse too.

This purse was so much to make and pretty quick to put together. I found this pattern in a local quilt store in Reno, NV, but found the website and designer Ellen Medlock online. You have to go look at some of the goodies on her website and blog.

Yes many of you know that I love my purses.

Generally I purchase Micheal Kors, Coach, Juicy Couture, Dooney & Bourke purses but lately I have been wanting vintage style purses. So I got this GRAND idea that I was going to teach myself to make purses. Well I have to say my hubby is on board with this. He thinks I will spend less on purses if I make them myself. Wow! He hasn't looked at the price of fabric lately.

So here is my goal...

I want to learn as many ways to make purses and get as much experience as I can and maybe you will see a Etsy store in the near future! The ones that I want to create are the ones that have lace, embellishments, many textures such as the purses in this book.

I'm so excited to get this book.

But then I found this book too...

Doesn't that green one look just yummy?

Well I wanted to verbalize my goal of making purses and what a better place to post it where I have to see it in print.

Back from Vegas

Yes this is the picture of New York, New York Casino in Las Vegas! One of my favorite casinos in Vegas. Seems like I spend alot of time there, great shows, good shopping, good food and the best Hurricanes. Well that is another story, like I was drinking them before lunchtime and was still able to take this picture!!

So yes, this past week-end I was in Las Vegas for a Close to my Heart Regional training class, business right? and a little playing! Oh well how can you go there and not play?? Anyways, we, my CTMH sista Carrie Kay, had a blast at class creating with some of the new products in the Spring catalog.

Here is one project that I think sums up the the week-end. A great little scrap cube that I can now print out the Vegas pictures because the week-end was full of smiles, fun and play!

Here we used the CTMH My Creations Cube...

We also used the Mayberry Paper pack, Irresistibles™ Villa Chipboard Die-Cuts, and Irresistibles™ Eclectic Chipboard Die-Cuts. This is a great project to do and has many possibilities. So think outside of the box, heheheh...if you cut a hole in the top it could be a tissue box, or if you put post it notes where the photos go it could be an office organizer.

Fabric Scrap baskets

Well last night I was having fun making little fabric scrap baskets for me and my friend Carrie. I thought this is a great little basket that you could carry supplies in to a crop and while you are there you can throw those little scraps of paper in your personal basket. I got the idea from what alot of sewing people would know as a thread catcher. You can google "thread catcher" they are super cute and they hang off the side of the table while you are sewing to catch thread and fabric scraps. Most of the thread cacthers I saw online had a pin cushion attached to it. I didn't think the pin cushion would be helpful for a scrapper or a card maker so I just stuck to making the basket part. Anyways, I can think of lots of uses for these little baskets...like lining my desk filled with crafty goodiness! And it would clean up my desktop too!

Now to find the right colors for my office - red & aqua with a retro feel. Well that would be another sewing night, maybe this week-end.
