Blue Saturday

Today I am posting two of the paintings I have been working on this week.  They are blue, which today represents my mood.  But I don't want to burden you with my drama, so the best thing I can do is share what I have created.


This one is another grunge landscape.  I love the teal/blues.  They will look great in my bedroom over my dresser.

This second one was a little more difficult of me.  It was a little more controlled with creating squares, rectangles and circles.  I like it but it has a different personality.

Both of these works are available in prints, pillows, mugs and more on my Society 6 shop.  For now the originals are mine or until I am ready to release them.

#64 & 65 - I stepped outside of my comfort zone

This past week-end I stepped outside of my comfort zone in many ways.  We will start with my comfort of being in social settings.  I am not anti-social, I just don't enjoy being around crowds.  mainly because I miss most of the conversation and people really do get annoyed when I ask them many times to repeat hat they said.  Most times I just smile and nod.  So back to this week-end...I attended a bbq for a friend's vow renewal and I attended a house concert.

Both were fun (uncomfortable), love my comfort zone of home.  I hope this doesn't sound like I never go out and do anything.  I just prefer one on one.  So how does this relate to my art????

I am going to share painting #64 & 65.  I will admit that these painting were sort of out of my comfort zone too.  Watercolor on Yupo paper is comfortable, sharing what I do is no so comfortable and when you are asked to paint something for someone's CD cover - really uncomfortable!

This is a painting is available as an original and/or print.  I painted it while I was listening to Ben Allfree's music.  It was I wonder if I can do this kinda of thing.  I had so much fun that I had to try it again with my signature color - orange!

Yes, #2 was chosen for the CD cover for Ben's first CD.  It is kinda cool to see this and for me to take a chance.  he had all the confidence in me and I have to thank him for that.

He has the original painting, but we have agreed to have the print available for a little while for his listeners (groupies) to purchase.  So if you would like to see the print or purchase you can go to HERE.


Overall I am glad I stepped out of my comfort zone.  The house concert was great and I would highly suggest you book Ben for a concert.  His info is here.

#62 - An Orange Abstract, should it be called a tulip?

I have been painting quite a bit lately, just haven't shared yet.  Plus there is some big news coming too.  In the meantime I really need to start photo more of my stuff.

Here is #62 of 200.  Do you think I will make it to 200?  Well not the way it was intended in 200 days, but I'm sure I'll make it to 100 and we will see.  This painting was done with pouring watercolor paints on Yupo paper.  Talk about releasing control!  It was invigorating, freeing and uplifting.  I will need to make a video of how this is done.

Anyways I am sharing the photo horizontal so I can look at it that way and here it is vertical.

I was drawn to the the vertical but this morning the horizontal is interesting too.  Love that it being an abstract it can go anyways it feels.

Sometime with an abstract you really need to see it with a mat around it to get the feeling of the piece.  Plus it is easier for your eyes too.  I can't wait to frame this one.

You do know I LOVE orange, right?  And does it look like a tulip?  It didn't when I was painting, nor when it was drying but seeing it in a photo I see what people were saying.  But as an abstract it can be anything you want it to be.

#60 &61 - I'm sorta feeling like a REAL artist

I have been painting.  I just haven't been blogging or sharing it yet.  The art that I have been been doing is abstract and some people just don't get it or like it.  So take a deep breath.....whew!

Here is paintings number 60 and 61.  They are watercolor on Yupo paper.

This is how the paintings look raw and makes you say ok, but add some mat to them and it helps your eyes a bit.

That helps!  Abstract, there are rules to them.  You need to look for flow, texture, lines and a few other elements.  All I know the art teacher that I took the class with she was very happy with these and told me not to touch them.  That made me happy.

But the big test is how they look in a frame on the wall.

Now that make me feel like an artist, seeing your finished work on the wall and it being impressive.  Love how it looks in my master bedroom.  It makes the rest of the artwork look a little drab.  So you may see a few more teal and grey pieces in upcoming posts.

#49 - stencils and watercolor

#49 of 200...keeping it short and simple tonight.  I keep asking myself if I could use stencils with watercolors and I have found out the answer.  Yes you can if you are painting on Yupo papers but not of traditional watercolor paper.  This is because the paint stays on top of the Yupo paper rather than soaking in on watercolor paper.  The only trick is to leave the stencil on while paint dries or just about dried.

This painting was a much larger painting that I cut down.  It was supposed to be an abstract poppy but it didn't work out as planned so I cut it to fit the mat.  Oh well, off to try another.

#46 & 47...just plugging along

#46 & 47 of 200...This week I'm trying to catch up for the missing days and complete those unfinished projects sitting on my desk I have to admit the heat here in Reno is getting to me, which is effecting creativity.  Some days I just want to sleep and other days I'm stir crazy from being inside in the air conditioning.  I so miss my morning walks

I hope you don't mind if this week is all watercolor or mixed media canvas projects.  Felting requires alot of physical activity and that doesn't sound fun right now.

Both of these cards were done on Yupo paper, watercolor paints and Higgins Black Magic waterproof ink.  This ink reacts nicely with the watercolors.

Both of these cards are on my Etsy shop, see like on sidebar!  What a great little gift to send to someone, a handmade original water colored card that they can frame.

#41 - Watercolor abstract on Yupo paper

#41 of 200 ...exploring what you can do with watercolor on yupo paper.  When I think of watercolor I think of landscapes, flowers, birds and so forth but I never have thought of abstracts until today.  You have to love YouTube!  I watched a few and many of them were doing techniques that I always thought of with collage or art journals.

Yupo paper is so forgiving, if you don't like something you can re-wet it and wipe it away.  So lay a stencil over the top and apply a wet napkin leaves the reverse of the stencil.

Think of all the possibilities!

 I know a crappy photo of it in the frame but I can't decide which direction I like it...horizontal or vertical?  Which do you like?

#39 - Watercolor poppy on Yupo

#39 of 200 artworks...decided to not say 200 days of painting because I have not posted everyday.  Mainly because I get busy or should I say distracted on week-ends.  I really do love Mondays, because I do my art like a business, working M-F during the day and some nights.
 
Anyhow, today's post is an experiment.  I have heard of Yupo paper but have never played with it.  It is popular for those who like to play with inks because of its slippery texture.  Read a little more and a few people have had success with watercolor paints.  So I had to try.

I LOVE the vibrancy of color that you get.  The paint takes a little longer to dry so you can move the paper and watch the paint swirl.  Then I added a little India ink to outline the poppy and just love how it bled into the orange.

Looks really nice in a frame and on my lime green wall.  Which got me thinking of decorating that guest room with a touch of orange!
