Day 12 - crochet and bead necklace

This is a necklace that I'm glad to finally have finished.  I have been working on it a little each night to get it done.

I love the color!  Coral.

It is very light weight and from the photos you can't really see the beads...bummer.

I can see me wearing this with a nice sweater and or a tank top in the summer.

Shop share today

 

Today I thought I would share my daughter Jessi's Esty shop.

I don't know if you know but she has been sick for 7 months now.  She is unable to work a normal job because she never knows when she is going to get sick or have to go to Dr appointments.  A few people suggested that she start selling her adorable crocheted animals.

 

Here are a few of the animals she has on the shop.

 

 

 

She make all sorts of turtles.  They are so stikin cute.  But as I have been informed not everyone likes the cutesy stuff.

 

She LOVES the octopus.  And many people do too.

The octopus is going to be in two sizes and possibly accessories to come.

Monday madness

 

It is a happy Monday and a very busy one too.

 

I wanted to share my favorite color...orange.  I bet you didn't know that.

But lately I have been drawn to purple and orange.  they have even showed up in my spring clothing too.

 

So this week-end I was goofing off on my new clean sewing room...hahaha, not so clean now, and this is the little happy quilt I made.

 

 

It's a little rough around the edges.  I would call it my prototype.

 

However, I have been determined to figure out a way to incorporate quilting, beading and free-form crochet in a little work of art.  I have the mini quilt mounted on watercolor paper that is mounted to foam core.  I read on a blog that this is called the museum mount.

 

Thought it would look really cute in a shadow box frame...see below.

 

Ta-da!!!

 

I'm proud of my little creation, that it got me to making lots more.

I love scarves!

 

Yes I love scarves.  It seems to be a little problem in the winter because I never seem to have enough storage space for them.  They are hanging on the back of the bedroom door, door knobs, my vintage floor length mirror, and any spare chair!  So what do I do...make another!

 

This one I started about a week and a half ago...just crocheting at dr appointments and a quilt meeting.  It was great small project that you can take along with you.

 

 

 

 

Here it is laying on my photo table.  A very simple crocheted motif of flowers.

 

 

 

But the big question...which way should I wear it?

 

Wrapped around the neck?

 

 

Or long and skinny?

 

 

Today is a perfect day to wear this scarf...it snowed.  I'm so ready for spring but then I will have to pack up my heavy warm scarves and make some light weight ones.

 

I'm still working on my free form crochet project.  Not ready to share yet.

Crochet limiting?

 

 

 

This past Sunday I was trying to learn to knit.  I went to a local store and the lady there was extremely helpful and got me started.  However, there were some traditional knitters watching me knit...I hear all sorts of advice and comments on how I hold the sticks, I know NEEDLES!

 

But one comment stuck with me...knitting is more versatile.  Versatile!!  Hmmm...for who and for what?  I don't want to knit a sweater or make a hat, not really interested in a whole new hobby.  Actually I wanted to learn to knit just a few stitches because I want to try out freeform crochet and many of the artists that teach it incorporate both knitting and crochet in their tutorials and books.  To make the long story I just needed to learn how to do the garter stitch with increases and decreased...nothing fancy.  That will be another post...my messy knitting.  It is  a must share.

 

So I wanted to show something that you can't make with knitting, it has to be crocheted.

 

Here is a freeform crocheted brooch that I made.

 

 

 

What I liked about this pin is that I crocheted this with embroidery floss.  Who knew the 3 containers of floss would be used again!

Little blue bird

 

Here is a little blue bird I made with the help of my daughter, Jessi.

She decided that since I love to crochet while watching TV that we could do this

over New Years.

 

There is a a bunch of people into this type of crocheting.  The name of the style is called amigurumi.

Here is the two we made together.  Interesting thing is that we used the same yarn and hook and mine came out so much smaller.  Tighter stitches because I'm used to thread crochet.

 

This all started when I bought this book for Jessi for Christmas.

 

 

Thought it would be fun for her to crochet a wiener dog!

 

Well I hope this brought a little smile, since the birds are so stinkin cute, even though mine has beady little eyes.

12th day or ornaments...

 

Today is 12-12-12 and we won't see those number again until

2112.

 

 

Today's 12th day ornament is a scrappy heart that I made.  This was a great way for me to use up more fabric scraps, plus I really like hearts.

So why not have a few on the tree.

 

But of course I had to make them in my tree colors.  They are so bright and cheerful.

 

A few people were trying to figure out my tree theme and colors, so I hope the 12 days of ornaments gave them a good idea.  Bright and handmade.

Yesterday on FB many people like my snowflakes so here is a bonus ornament of other snowflakes I have been making.

 

I am happy to have the 12 day journey and a little sad to stop.  Although I plan on sharing more item that I make and start sharing my art quilt that I have made in the last several month.

 

So if you like seeing fabric, yard and beading inspiration, continue down my creative path.

11th day of Ornaments...

 

Today is a short little blog post.  I have so many gifts and ornaments to finish, plus two sick people home with me.

 

 

 

This is one thing that I love to do...thread crochet.  I love working with the tiny threads and they create little delicate item.

8th day of ornaments...

 

 

 

 

Short and sweet Saturday post.

I'm a little under the weather today and late posting today's ornament.

Actually this ornament was new for me...I did them last night.  Here is the story, I have crocheted off and on for the last several years but I have never done a granny square design.  Mainly thought they looked too old lady for me, you know like grandma used to make.  Well maybe I'm getting older or I'm really into handmade Christmas but I wanted to try a Grannie square motif.

They are pretty but not my colors.  So that means I had to make one for my tree too.

4th day of Ornaments...

 

Happy Tuesday and we are on Day 4 of 12 days of ornaments.  I couldn't wait to post these little ball this morning.  I made them last night and decided I needed to show them today.

 

 

Yes, another crochet ornament.  I don't if you have a feel for my tree, but most of my ornaments are handmade be me.  Hubby was asking, "So this year's theme is quilted and crochet?"  Well it seems that way.

 

 

These are my tree colors in additional of teal.  They wouldn't let me add orange!!!  Can you believe that?  My kitchen is orange and many of the painting and art quilts are orange in my living room. 

 

 

So these crocheted balls are over plastic clear balls and again I'm going to tell you that they are easy to do.  I did these 4 while watching The Voice last night.

If you know how to crochet, here is a step by step picture tutorial on how to do these.

 

Today I am running down to Micheals to get more plastic balls.  I think they would look nice in a vase on the mantel.  I think I need a different vase, but what a POP of color.

1st day of ornaments...

I have a lofty goal of sharing 12 days of ornaments on my blog.  So here goes...

day 1.

 

 

Here is a very simple crochet ornament that I made, actually made several for my tree this year!

I made six in one night.

 

 

Decided that the green just doesn't show up on my tree, go figure I have teal, purple, pink and lime.  Having those colors put me on a mission to make my own ornaments this year.  Why go out to buy cheep plastic ornaments, when I can make them?  OK...I had to go shopping for supplies which probably cost more than buying a box of pre-made!

Like I said they are simple, the whole ornament was done with single crochet stitches and a center ring.

The weather is getting cooler outside and I really love the feeling of wrapping a scarf around my neck.  Here is a scarf that I finished last night while I was watching The Voice.  It is amazing how fast I can crochet while watching TV.  Bonus is that is was a very simple design too.

 

Sorry today my model was not cooperative...so my shirt on a hanger had to do.

 

I used a a silk yard so this scarf feels incredible and warm.  the only downfall I feel is that the scarf is really heavy.  But like I said it was a simple pattern.  If you know how to crochet and do single crochet stitches you can do it too.  The center section is 6 stitched wide and the dangle chains off the side are approx 20 stitches.  I varied the length from time to time to give a little more variation.

 

 

I think I would do this scarf again, but in a lighter weight yarn.

 

So do you knit or crochet?  I'm reading a book that says to have a hobby even if you are an artist.  By having a hobby helping get the creative juices flowing.  Although I haven't convinced myself that I'm a quilt artist yet, I am inspiring to be one by exploring new techniques and styles. Who know many art quilter add fibers onto their quilts.  But in the meantime crochet is a peaceful hobby.
